History

More than 30 years ago, Long Island Compost was founded by Charles, Dominic, and Arnold Vigliotti. Today, the company employs more than 150 men and women, operating the nation’s largest yard waste drop-off facility in Westbury, New York, and a 62-acre facility in Yaphank, New York. It is at these locations that more than 2,000 landscaping companies come to drop their organic materials, which LIC later harvests into compost. These facilities represent an environmentally sound answer to the region’s ongoing organic waste problems.

Each year, Long Island Compost manufactures more than 5 million bags of soil products, which are channeled directly back into the Long Island marketplace.

By creating such a product locally—and distributing it through hundreds of garden centers and national retailers—Long Island Compost has eliminated the need for thousands of interstate trucking trips, and subsequently minimized costs for Long Islanders by supplying a product far more competitively priced than the national brands.
